Dr Liz Shackleton’s career spans from clinical veterinary practice through to leadership roles in the pharmaceutical, biosecurity and dairy sectors. She started as Chief Executive in October 2023.

Her farming roots run deep, having worked from behind the farm gate, with touchpoints across research, manufacturing, sales and regulation. This gives her an appreciation of the diverse needs of our members and equips her to engage with government on priorities of importance to our members.

Her experience includes supporting teams and governance functions across private and public partnerships in the primary sector.

Liz is a graduate of the University College Dublin Veterinary School, a chartered member of the NZ Institute of Directors, a board member of the NZ Veterinary Council, and a past president and member of the Australia New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (Pharmacology), and the Institute for Strategic Leadership alumnus.

Jo-Anne Stokes
Technical Adviser - Crop Protection

E jo-anne.stokes@aphanz.co.nz
P 022 172 1808

Technical management of our crop protection and rural distributor portfolios.

Jo-Anne Stokes commenced as Technical Adviser - Crop Protection in March 2023, after fourteen years at the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) - where she was instrumental in developing a programme to ensure imports are treated before arriving on our shores, as well as meeting requirements for exporting goods. Prior to this, Jo-Anne held technical and policy-based roles at Federated Farmers NZ and Rural Women NZ. She is no stranger to getting her gumboots dirty – having managed farming operations in dairy, beef and horticulture locally and overseas.

Her combined background has taught her that there aren't enough tools to eradicate pests and diseases to protect our whenua for the next generation - something she wants to address.

When not planning the demise of any pest or disease, Jo-Anne can be found rowing or coaching rowers in Wellington Harbour at daybreak.
