New Zealand needs a streamlined, cost-effective approval process
There’s no question new products should be rigorously tested and independently approved but our members are reporting that the current processes are not working well.
The primary sector understands the need for regulators to be using the most up-to-date science and risk approaches to do their job effectively and efficiently, with adequate resources and clear priorities and resource focus.
The sector wants to see greater transparency of how sector funding is being used and the outcomes that are being delivered for that. Clear objectives and a business-like approach are important for New Zealand to grow.
There are five priorities for animal and plant health regulation that we’d like the review to address - right touch regulation; clear rules, roles, and responsibilities; balanced risk mindset; acknowledge security and supply risks for New Zealand; and transparency, performance reporting and outcomes for investment.
